2009 – Cannexion organized a special mission for the largest agri-food Co-op in Colombia (COLANTA), to visit Canada. Province of Ontario.
The first time that the general manager of the biggest Co-operative in Colombia visited Canada, happened more than 35 years ago. At that time, one of the most important dairy companies in Canada donated one of the first milk cooling tanks to Colanta. The second visit to Canada was organized by our president Mr. Juan-Pablo Higuera. During the one week trip, the general manager of Colanta, not only visited some Jersey cow farms, genetic companies and farm equipment enterprises, but also some Angus farms. However, the main purpose of the visit was to learn more about the Canadian swine industry and its genetics. Particular interest was shown on the Duroc –terminal line- breed, as a baseline to stablish a swine improvement genetic program.
Colanta has more than 12,000 dairy producers and 7,000 workers. This co-op is the largest dairy company in Colombia, controlling 25% of the market. They have several plants, distributions centers and farming supply stores across Colombia. They also have one of the largest and most modern slaughterhouses in the country, as well as, a very recognized meat brand.
